Detectives in Guildford are appealing for a cyclist who may have witnessed an assault on a lone woman pedestrian to contact officers.
The incident, in which the 24-year-old victim was grabbed at the back of the neck by an unknown man, happened on Monday (July 28) at around 8.45 am as she walked to work along a footbridge from the Wooden Bridge Pub towards the A3 and Ladymead.
After the woman screamed, the suspect walked off in the direction of Guildford town centre, crossing the road and shouting at traffic as he went.
A short time after the common assault the victim walked past a cyclist who was stood by a mountain bike, sheltering from the rain at the bottom of the footbridge ramp. Officers would like to speak with this potential witness and are appealing for him to contact Surrey Police.
The cyclist is described as a white man, in his mid to late thirties and of a medium build. He had dark hair, with dark facial hair and was wearing dark navy clothes and glasses.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with common assault and was due to appear appeared before magistrates in Guildford on Tuesday, 29 July. Harry Ayres of Riverside, Guildford failed to appear and there is a warrant out for his arrest.
