A Woking man has been remanded in custody after being charged with 14 burglaries across Surrey and Sussex including seven incidents in Peaslake.
James Akehurst, 52, of Sythwood, Woking, was arrested in Kent last Wednesday (December 12), and charged with 12 shed burglaries in the Guildford, Woking and Mole Valley areas, as well as two shed burglaries in West Sussex.
The burglaries, which involved the theft of thousands of pounds worth of garden equipment, took place between 11 March and 12 December, as well as the seven shed breaks in Peaslake, two were in Horsell, two in Betchworth and there was a break-in at a garage at a house in Reigate. The two shed burglaries in West Sussex took place in Horsham and Barcombe.
Akehurst first appeared before magistrates at Guildford on 12 December and was further remanded at court yesterday (19 December). He is next due to appear at South West Surrey Magistrates Court in Guildford on 22 January 2013.
