18-year-old Charged with Serious Assault and Threatening with a Knife in Nightclub

UPDATED – see Popworld comment below. An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of serious assault, possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, and possession of a bladed article.

Police were called to Popworld on Bridge Street at around 1.45am on Sunday (2 March) after a report of a man in possession of a knife being detained by security.

Reef Mitchell, from Farnham, has since been charged with serious assault, possession of an offensive weapon, threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place, and two counts of assault. He was remanded to appear at Guildford Magistrates Court on Monday, March 3.

Update: A spokesperson for Popworld Guildford said: “We prioritise the safety and security of our guests and have a range of measures in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable night out. These include, but are not limited to, our fully trained SIA door team conducting enhanced searches and our venue being fully covered by 24-hour CCTV.

“We are deeply concerned about the recent incident and are satisfied that our team took the appropriate action immediately. As matter of course, following any incident we fully review all safety protocols to ensure we continue to provide a secure environment for all our guests.”

Surrey Police have been asked for the outcome of the court appearance.

Drunk and disorderly

In an unconnected incident an hour later, just before 2.45am, officers patrolling Bridge Street were called to the bridge over the River Wey due to a concern for safety.

A 22-year-old woman was arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour and taken to custody. She has since been released with no further action.
