We celebrated in style with a sumptuous buffet supper and a game of pass the parcel where everyone was a winner and the prizes between the layers of paper caused much hilarity. Fairlands WI is on its feet again and members enjoyed a memorable social evening in January.

The evening commenced with the presentation of a beautiful flower arrangement to Sandra Morgan who had been an instigator in setting up the WI over 50 years ago. She has been made an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list.

During the meeting members voted on the resolutions and chose one about avoiding food waste and encouraging supermarkets to pass surplus food onto charities. This is the one they would like to go forward to the 2016 WI annual meeting.

A coach outing to the Milestones Museum has been arranged for Friday, March 4. This is open to friends and relatives and promises to be an enjoyable occasion. (See poster below).

At the next meeting on February 10, David Rose will come along to talk about Guildford’s lost shops. This is his second talk on the subject and those who came last time will be interested to hear more. This will be an open meeting where friends and family can join in. Visitors pay a nominal sum of £2.
