Notice: Probus ’83 Club For Retired Professional Businessmen

Published on: 22 Feb, 2016
Updated on: 22 Feb, 2016

Are you a man who has retired, or is about to retire, from a profession, commerce or business?

If so, you may be missing the camaraderie and stimulation that comes from mixing with colleagues and clients or customers?

Probus '83The solution may be closer than you think. Probus (standing for PROfessional and BUSiness) was set up in 1965 and there are now more than 1,500 clubs in Britain as well as overseas, all with a non-political and non-sectarian ethos.

Probus ’83, so named as it was formed in 1983 as Guildford’s second Probus Club, has over 80 members.

We meet once a month at Weybourne House, a modern building with terrace overlooking the River Wey, for a chat over drinks followed by an inexpensive lunch and a talk from an interesting speaker.

The backgrounds of our members are extensive: from accountants to airline pilots; from chemists to company directors; from merchant bankers to mechanical engineers. All enjoy each other’s company, conversation and general bonhomie.

Apart from our monthly talks, we host a ladies lunch twice a year when our better halves join us for entertainment and enlightenment.

We also organise periodic visits to events and places of interest for members, wives and partners.

Our Investment Information Group meets monthly with group discussion or invited speakers who keep us abreast of latest information, tax legislation etc. There are no demands to maintain minimum attendance levels nor pressurisation to participate in club activities.

We hope you like the sound of Probus ’83?  If so, why not contact us for further information and perhaps arrange to come along as the club’s guest at one of our meetings?

You would be most welcome and there is no commitment to join unless you wish to do so, but we think by then you probably will. New members and guests quickly feel at ease and ‘at home’.
