Surrey Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying two men in connection with a theft in Guildford town centre on Thursday, November 26 2015. Their images were captured by CCTV cameras.
The incident happened at approximately 11.20am. The victim, a woman in her 80s, visited Barclays Bank in North Street to withdraw a quantity of cash from an ATM inside the branch. Shortly after, on her way to the bus stop she noticed her purse was missing from her bag.
At approximately 11.30am a quantity of cash was withdrawn from the victim’s bank account from an ATM at Barclays Bank and Virgin Money on North Street, Guildford.
Investigating Officer, PC Dylan Gifford, said: “I would like to speak to the men in these CCTV stills as I believe they may hold information vital to this investigation. If you are the men in the images or know who they are please call 101.”
“When you are out and about in public always make sure your belongings and valuables are out of sight of potential opportunist thieves. Make sure your bag is secure and don’t keep anything valuable in your back pockets.”
Surrey Police provide the following advice:
· Don’t leave your bag unattended (for instance in a shopping trolley, or on a cafe table while getting food) even for a moment – thieves can be very quick
· Watch out for people approaching you when sat at a table (at a coffee shop for instance). A common technique is to ask for directions and use the cover of a map or newspaper to take your valuables from the table
· Keep your bag zipped up, so thieves can’t see what is in there
· Consider attaching bells to your purse or phone (so it makes a noise when it is removed) or attaching them to your bag with a strap (so they are harder to remove)
· Wear your bag across your chest so that it can’t be pulled from your shoulder.
