Guildford shoppers are set to see a new addition to the town’s retail scene: a brand-new Superdrug store on-schedule to open on Thursday, May 29 at Ladymead Retail Park.
While the town already benefits from a well-stocked Superdrug on the High Street, this second location might be more convenient for residents and shoppers near the A3 and the cluster of larger stores in the Ladymead area. The store is in the final stages of preparation, with recruitment for staff already well underway.
According to listings on Superdrug’s official careers website, the opening is part of the company’s “New Store Opening” programme, suggesting a fresh and potentially updated format for the brand. Although no official launch date has been announced, visible signage and active hiring point to an imminent opening.
The new store is expected to complement the existing High Street branch on Guildford High Street , which continues to operate seven days a week. The expansion reflects both growing consumer demand and Guildford’s position as a key regional centre for health and beauty retail.
During a visit to the current town-centre store, I spoke with a young customer who was surprised but not entirely shocked—by the news of a second branch.
“I hadn’t heard about it, but I guess it makes sense,” she said. “Some women buy a lot of make-up and parking will be easier [at Ladymead].”
According to Retail Gazette, Superdrug’s profit skyrocketed past £100 million in 2023 thought to be due to the company’s member-only deals and own-brand products.
In that year, sales were reported to have risen 12 per cent to £1.53 billion, boosted by a 12.5 per cent surge in store performance.
The new Guildford store is one of 25 Superdrug has said it plans to open this year which will create around 600 new jobs. It already has 780 stores trading.
