All Set For Switching On Guildford’s Christmas Lights

Guildford’s Christmas lights will be switched on this coming Thursday, November 19.

There will be lots going on in the town centre as the countdown to the festive seasons begins.

Families can bring their little ones to say hello to Santa’s reindeer at the Rotunda (opposite the Friary Centre) from noon and the popular Newfoundland dogs will be making regular appearances around town all day.

From 2pm enjoy live music and entertainment on the Experience Guildford stage outside Holy Trinity Church on the High Street, or catch one of our local choirs at Tunsgate Arch.  The princesses from Disney’s Frozen, a chance to meet Father Christmas and local musical talent are among the acts on offer.

At 5.15pm the traditional mascot parade will make its way up the High Street with familiar faces including Specky, Scorcher and Eggbert.

The big countdown starts at 6pm as Peter Gordon from Eagle Radio takes to the balcony with Father Christmas, panto stars and lots of surprises.

The lights will be switched on at 7pm, followed by fireworks sponsored by White Lion Walk.

Emma Stevens and the Charley Farley Sunday Four will see off the evening in style with live music after the fireworks until 8.30pm.

Late night-shoppers will also benefit from free parking offers this festive season, curtesy ofo Experience Guildford, with support from Guildford Borough Council. Parking will be free in selected pay and display car parks every Thursday from 4pm. The offer applies on Thursdays November 26, December 3, 10 and 17.

The car parks taking part are Bedford Road multi-storey and surface, Leapale Road, Millbrook, G Live, Mary Road, Bright Hill, Commercial Road pay and display, Old Police Station, and Upper High Street.
