Ash Manor School was closed yesterday (Thursday, November 21) after a fire tore through the tennis  centre in the school grounds.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 3.42am and reported later that day: “We have four pumps on site dealing with the fire. The police and electricity company are also in attendance. The fire is not affecting the main school buildings, but the school is closed today.”

Today (Friday)  Surrey County Council reported that the fire was “accidental.”

A council statement on social media said the school closure was necessary because the fire had caused power outages.

Students turned up at school today (Friday) expecting lessons to resume but were sent home later in the morning because of the continuing power problems.
