Back To The Fifties For ‘Millmead On Sea’ Holiday At Home

‘Millmead on Sea’ is this year’s staycation programme for the over 60s to enjoy a three-day holiday at home.

Guildford Baptist Church has trawled attics and garden sheds for 1950s memorabilia, buckets and spades, old board games, domineos and card games to entertain older friends, neighbours and any members of the public who want to trip down the memory lane of the traditional seaside fare of the Fifties.

Fish and chip lunches, Cornish pasties, morning coffee and afternoon tea and cakes will whet everyone’s appetite.

A ‘Move or Lose it’ tea dance, a Punch and Judy show and an end-of-the-pier show will also feature, while the imported sandy pool, treasure hunt and marquee in the church grounds will transform the Millmead Centre into a previous decade’s coastal resort.

‘Holiday at Home’ will also include a trip to the sea, as holidaymakers board a coach to visit Portsmouth Harbour. No doubt this will include community singing on the journey home.

‘Millmead on Sea’ will run from Tuesday, July 31 from 10.30am to 4pm until Thursday, August 2. The total cost is £25 (£7.50 for single days). Thursday’s coach trip will cost £12. Put your towel on the beach now and reserve your place.

Booking forms are available from the church office – telephone 01483 575008, email office@guildfordbaptist.org or call in at Millmead Centre, Millmead,GU2 4BE – and don’t forget to bring your large white hankies to shield yourself from the sun!
