Blackheath Cricket Club, one of the many successful village clubs in the Guildford area has secured a new sponsorship deal with Seymours Estate Agents Guildford.

The club senior teams play in the I’Anson league, believed to be the oldest continuously-operating village cricket league in England.

Blackheath, with over 450 playing members, including more than 100 women and girls, and around 1,000 members in total, has a proud record of achievement in the league, winning the Division 1 championship in 2015, 2019 and 2023, and runners-up in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

In addition to the senior team there is a women’s team, as well as midweek and Sunday teams. The club also fields around 20 junior teams in the Surrey Junior Cricket Championship.

With effect from the start of the 2025 season, Seymours will become Blackheath CC’s lead sponsor for a minimum of three years. The arrangement includes shirt sponsorship across all teams, as the Blackheath junior section moves to coloured kit for all age groups.

Club Secretary Simon Jones, Seymours partner Charity Holden and club chairman Nick Harrison

Blackheath CC Chairman Nick Harrison said: “We are delighted to partner with a such well-known firm as Seymours with a great local reputation. We are very grateful for Seymours’ support and look forward to a long and happy relationship.”

Seymours Partner Charity Holden said: “As a lifelong cricket fan, having spent years watching my brothers and sons play—and even trying my hand at the game myself—sponsoring Blackheath Cricket Club felt like a natural fit. It’s a fantastic opportunity to give back to the local community I’m proud to serve while supporting a sport that means so much to me. I’m delighted to be a sponsor and look forward to championing grassroots cricket in Blackheath for years to come.”

History: Blackheath Cricket Club dates from the very early years of the village.  In the 1870s, houses started to be built here on the hill for workers from the Chilworth Gunpowder Company in the valley below, and it was those workers who cleared and levelled a patch of heather and founded the club in 1878.
