The Guildford Institute’s autumn term programme of courses focuses on the very relevant topic of ‘Life from Home’.

It reports that it has made “astonishing strides over the past few months; tutors and attendees alike have had to get to grips with and understand new technologies and how they can be used to provide fantastic experiences”.

Booking are now being taken for the Guildford Institute’s autumn courses.

Over the summer, more and more tutors have started offering courses using the on-line platform Zoom, and more and more of its members have found they really enjoy this new experience.

The Guildford Institute is offering a 20% discount on all ‘Life from Home’ courses, including The World Wide Web and the Internet and Black British History.

Other new courses include Introduction to Archaeology, The Secrets of the Honey Bee and The Victorians at Work and Play.

Local historian and writer David Rose will once again be tutoring his series on Uncovering Guildford’s Recent History. The topics discussed will be: local disused railway lines and features, personalities who left their mark on Guildford, along the River Wey Navigations and crime and punishment.

The Guildford Institute building in Ward Street is set to open soon, with measures in place to ensure it will be a safe experience for everyone.

Therefore, it is offering some face-to-face courses for those who are happy to interact with tutors, albeit at safe distances.

Understandably places on these courses will be limited, so early booking is advisable.

It also hopes to re-open the V Cafe soon and will also be offering its rooms for hire as soon as it is safe to do so.

Manager Amy Rice said: “This has been a really challenging period, but I am so proud of everyone for the way they have adapted and changed their ways of working.

“The autumn programme is very close to what we would normally offer which in the circumstances is remarkable.”
