The Guildford Institute in Ward Street has launched its digital brochure for the summer term.

There are more than 60 courses, workshops and talks on offer to the local community and beyond.

All activities will be delivered online via Zoom until June, when the institute hopes to start welcoming the public back into its building in Ward Street.

Aiming to encourage positivity in the community over the coming months, the theme for the summer term is Wonderful World.

It hopes to spread joy virtually and in person by offering everyone the opportunity to explore the world around them. Whether that be the natural environment, cinematic masterpieces, the wonders of the solar system or courageous human experiences.

Its annual summer school will take place in July and August, ensuring that cultural opportunities for all continue to be available throughout the latter summer months.

Covering a range of subjects including art history, creative writing and practical art, these shorter courses and one-off sessions also offer the chance to try something new.

Throughout the summer term, the Window on the World online talk series will continue on weekday afternoons.

In response to its growing popularity, the institute has increased the number of talks on offer.

Find out about the life and work of photographer Julia Margaret Cameron, discover the tale of six pilgrims from Dorking who boarded the Mayflower, and much more.

Guildford Institute logoInstitute manager Amy Rice said: “We’re hopeful that this term’s theme Wonderful World will encourage positivity in our local community and beyond during this challenging time.

“Our team of talented staff and tutors have worked really hard to continue to create full and varied programmes in the current circumstances.

“By offering both a vast online and in-person activity programme this summer, we hope that there is something available that everyone will feel comfortable in joining.”

Courses, workshops and talks for the summer term will run from April 9 to August 20. Advance booking for all activities is essential. As well as discounted rates for members, concession rates are available for those aged 65 and over, 30 years and under and jobseekers.
