Four men, who had been charged with conspiracy to rob, appeared in court yesterday (January 28) following a number of robberies across Surrey Heath and Guildford over the last two weeks, including that of the Coral bookmakers in Woodbridge Hill.
The men, Steven Doukoure, 18, of no fixed address; Nathan Baptiste, 21, from Denmark Hill, London; Stewart Robinson, 24, of Plumber Road, Clapham; and a 16-year-old male from Tulse Hill, London; were charged in connection with three robberies when they appeared at South West Surrey Magistrates’ Court in Guildford.
Included was a robbery at William Hill Bookmakers in Guildford High Street at 10.20am on January 26, a robbery at Ladbrokes Bookmakers in Park Street, Camberley, at 12.20pm on January 26 and an attempted robbery at Coral Racing Limited in Woodbridge Hill, Guildford, at 2.45pm on January 20.
Robinson and the 16-year-old were remanded in custody, while Doukoure and Baptiste were released on bail. All four are due to appear at Guildford Crown Court on February 14.
Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Karen Mizzi said: “Police responded quickly following reports of the two robberies over the weekend and close co-operation between several different teams led to a number of arrests being made. We want to continue to send a strong message that offences of this nature will not be tolerated in Surrey.”
