Boots the chemist has opened up its enlarged beauty hall in its Guildford High Street store and, in a vote of confidence for retail in the town, has taken on the equivalent of 10 new staff to cope with the anticipated demand.
With all counters refurbished and 11 new quality cosmetic brands to choose from, assistant manager, Sophie Mallyon, said: “It’s been lots of work. I’m very excited now it is ready.”
Assistant manager Corinne Twinn said that the beauty hall would sustain Boots’ place in the High Street and “give a bigger offering for our customers in Guildford.”
The refurbishment was not confined to the beauty hall but extended to a new layout in the pharmacy area, a new wellness department and a new photography section.
Beauty specialists Elise Robson and Hannah Piper explained that they wouldn’t be applying makeup to the customers themselves but would be advising on the products.
When asked about press reports from last year about potential Boots store closures in Guildford, Boots UK retail director Pete Bowrey said it had made a “significant investment and had loads of confidence in this store,” adding: “We always keep our shops under review but we have no plans for closing the Guildford store.”
