Stoke Park Bowling Club has solidified its promotion to the West Surrey Saturday League First Division by concluding an unbeaten season with victory against Farnham Bowling Club.
This decisive away match on Sunday, August 20, originally postponed due to the effects of Storm Antoni, determined the league’s title winner between the top two contenders.
Both Stoke Park and Farnham had already secured their promotions with a game in hand, making this showdown both a celebration of their collective accomplishments and a chance to go up as champions of the league.
Stoke Park needed a mere point out of the five available to secure the division championship.
The trio of rinks led by skippers Mark Medhurst, Chris How and Larry Webster, orchestrated an impressive 5-0 victory with a final score of 48 shots to Farnham and 77 shots to Stoke Park, ensuring both the match and their season remained untarnished with eight wins out of eight.
Club captain Alfie Simmons lauded his players’ efforts after the victory.
He said: “Every member of our team has contributed to this successful season. Achieving promotion is a commendable feat, and doing so without a single defeat bolsters our confidence as we head into the challenges of the First Division.”
