In response to: Revealed Survey Shows SCC’s Preferred Two-unitary Option Has Least Public Support
This whole local government reorganisation thing, it appears, is being forced through since the current national government took charge and it is being pushed through, with equal force, by Surrey County Council in a way its Cabinet wants, regardless of the wishes of the electorate.
On a matter as democratically significant as this, the full electorate of Surrey should have had the opportunity to have a say in what they’d like, be it one, two or three unitary authorities, or indeed to retain the current system.
This should be done via a proper, county-wide legally binding referendum, not a tiny survey, via the county council website and social media.
