Guildford motorists are being advised to expect some continued disruption as improvement works take place on the A320 Woking Road and B300 New Pond Road from Peaslake to Compton.

On Woking Road, three sections of pedestrian guardrail will be replaced on July 9. A workman on site said the complete project is expected to take some months.

Although the work will take place on the footway and is not expected to require a carriageway closure, cones will be positioned along the kerb edge to protect the workforce. This may cause minor disruption to passing traffic.

Meanwhile, surface dressing works on New Pond Road are due to begin on July 2.

Contractors have been granted a six-day permit covering July 2 to 7 and signs warning of road closure have been put in place, although the work is expected to be completed much sooner.

The Transport Development planning manager at Surrey County Council, said: “The period of works shown is the length of the permit. We allow extra time to account for any issues, such as weather, but surface dressing is typically a fast-moving programme that takes one or two days.”

The planning manager said work would be carried out during off-peak hours, between 9.30am and 4pm, to minimise disruption. The scheme will cover the full section of New Pond Road from the A3 roundabout to just west of the railway bridge.

He added: “Whilst it is difficult to comment on the extent of disruption, as we can’t know what volume of traffic will be on the network on any given day, naturally there will be some as a result of the diversion in place.”
