Police officers were called to the venue to find two men trapped under a metal door. They had been unloading equipment for Saturday night’s concert.

Reports say that one of men was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other, who had suffered serious injuries, was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

The show, which was to take place in the venue’s main hall, was cancelled, as had the studio comedy show by Seann Walsh.

On Saturday, G Live ticketing made every effort to contact all those who had bought tickets for both events to inform them of the cancellations.

The Health & Safety Executive has been informed and the G Live management team is assisting the authorities to identify the cause of the accident that took place at 11.45am.

In a statement issued by G Live, director Alvin Hargreaves, said: “This is a terribly sad day and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this incredibly difficult time.”

One of the first messages posted on the Fishermen’s Friends’ Facebook site on Saturday evening, read: “Paul loved you and was very proud of the fact that he worked with you. Please keep singing, and sing one for him as soon as you are able.”

More tributes have been added today (Sunday, February 10), included one that read: “So sorry to hear your news – my thoughts go out to all you guys and best wishes to trevor for a speedy recovery – sending Cornish love x.”

The president of the group’s record label Island Records, Darcus Beese, said: “Everyone here is shocked by this tragic event, our hopes and prayers go out to the friends and families of those involved.”

Tonight’s performance at G Live by Jimeoin is going ahead as scheduled.

G Live is operated by HQ Theatres on behalf of Guildford Borough Council.

The Guildford Dragon NEWS is hoping to receive and then publish a statement from the borough council.
