Business Sector Starts Counting Down to Christmas, Full Events Programme Planned

Mulled wine and chestnuts are expected to be available on the High Street again this year in the lead up to Christmas.

The annual Christmas lights switch-on event is to take place on Thursday, November 16. But the switch-on is only the first of the events planned according to a Guildford Borough Council press release.

“To celebrate the countdown to Christmas, Experience Guildford, the town’s Business Improvement District is launching a range of offers, events and incentives to support businesses in the town and maintain Guildford’s position as one of the premier festive retail and leisure destinations in the south-east.Kicking off proceedings.

Putting the High Street Christmas lights up in good time for the switch-on on Thursday, November 16.

“Visitors will be treated to entertainment and excitement throughout the town, including a packed schedule of acts performing at the Experience Guildford stage at the top of the high street, a glittering firework display courtesy of White Lion Walk Shopping Centre and the lights switch-on event itself, held in partnership with Guildford Borough Council and 96.4 Eagle Radio.”

“On Saturday November 18, Market Street brings their touch of Christmas magic to the town with a festive all-day event for all the family to enjoy. Expect to see a host of street entertainers and bespoke in-store events, plus stock up on discounts and goodies with giveaways, prize draws and competitions.”

Visitors are being advised to use the official “Guildford App” which will provide visitors to Guildford with real-time, up-to-the-minute information on everything they need for a stress-free day of Christmas shopping in the town, including data on the nearest vacant parking spaces, a full directory of the town’s shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and detail of all the latest offers and deals taking place over the festive period.

And back by popular demand, according to the organisers, will be Guildford’s Little Book of Big Offers packed full of offers, discounts and promotions from a selection of the town’s leading retail, leisure and lifestyle businesses. Available from Guildford Tourist Information Centre or via the official Guildford App, the “Little Book of Big Offers” is claimed to be the perfect passport to a great Christmas in Guildford, full of gift ideas and festive treats.

Late night Christmas shopping will also be available. Experience Guildford, supported by Guildford Borough Council will be offering visitors to the town free parking in Pay and Display car parks* every Thursday from 4pm from November 23 to December 21.
