Surrey Police have now identified a cyclist who suffered a medical episode earlier today (July 4). Officers wanted to contact his next of kin because he was being sedated in hospital.
The rider, a white man with short grey hair, was rescued by air ambulance after members of the public reported he had come off his bike at Newlands Corner shortly before 1.15pm. The road was closed while emergency services were attending, but it has reopened.
An appeal was launched by the police using an image of the cyclist’s bike as a possible identifier.
The cyclist remains in hospital and enquiries remain ongoing.
A police spokesperson added: “We would like to to thank everyone who provided information and shared our appeal. If you witnessed the incident or have any other information, please contact us on 101, quoting incident reference PR/P19149987.”
