Well done to everyone who successfully recognised the mystery pictures last time, writes David Rose.

They were the Newlands Corner Hotel (now the Manor House Hotel, Newlands Corner, Guildford), and the Treetops holiday camp, which I am sure was at Farley Green near Albury.

Name this Guildford street.

It recent years it has been the home of the Surrey Downs Sun Club for naturists. However, according to its website, its lease on the site has expired and it no longer meets there.

On to this week’s images, both from my collection.

I have cropped the photo above to a ‘letterbox’ shape. It dates from the 1980s. Can you name the street on which the buildings, seen from left to right, stand?

The picture below was taken during the First World War. What is that building today?

Leave a post. answers in about a week’s time.

What is this building today?

  1. Ann & David Bailey says:

The first picture, we think, is Chertsey Street.

The second one could be the back entrance to Farnham Road Hospital.

  2. Bernard Parke says:

    1st. North Street/Chertsey Street/Upper High Street.
2nd. The Old Royal Surrey County Hospital in the Farnham Road

  3. Caroline Reeves says:

The first image is Chertsey Street. I’m not sure about the second one… is it now the County School?
