Wey & ArunA canal charity needs volunteers to support its growing number of restoration projects.

The Wey & Arun Canal Trust is looking for help from people who can take on various administration roles.

It particularly needs volunteers to help with restoration support and publicity, which are vital roles as more and more canal is restored.

The Trust was formed in the 1970s to restore the canal from Pallingham in West Sussex to Shalford in Surrey. It has active projects at three sites along the 23-mile route, with work on other sections in various stages of planning.

National awards have been won for the new High Street bridge and lock at Loxwood and the Loxwood Canal Centre.

Trust chairman Sally Schupke said: “We have had enormous success in fully restoring various sections and the rate of progress is increasing. More restoration help is needed and we have a number of vacancies, mostly involving working from home.”

A special event at the Billingshurst Centre, Billingshurst, West Sussex, on Saturday, April 23rd has been organised to allow anyone interested in filling one of the roles to find out more. Potential volunteers can drop in to chat about the opportunities between 11.30am and 2pm.
