Guildford Cathedral is preparing for a 24-hour organathon in aid of its Music Development Foundation.
Starting at 8pm on Friday September 28, the cathedral’s organ will be played by a rota of past and present organists, sub-organists and organ scholars, all linked to the cathedral. And there will be rare chance to sleep over.
You can join the audience for the organathon at any point during the 24 hours, with some activities free or charge and others by ticket, helping to raise much-needed funds:
- First hour flourish at 8pm on Friday 28 – a rousing free recital (Canon Thistlethwaite will take a starring role!) – no tickets required.
- A night to remember! Sleep-over in the cathedral from 10pm to 8am followed by full English breakfast. Take your own camp-bed and sleeping bag, and bed down wherever you like in the cathedral to support the all night organists. If you don’t want to stay the night but would like to go for breakfast at 8am, contact Penny Peters. Tickets: £45 to include breakfast and free ticket to the Saturday night concert.
- Drop in
- Go along to the cathedral at any time on Saturday 29 from 8am to 7pm to listen and support.
- You can even make a request in return for a donation via www.everyclick.com/organathon2012.
- Finale – Last Night of the Proms concert featuring Guildford Cathedral Choir and organists, starting at 7pm on Saturday, September 29. Hear Handel’s Zadok the Priest, Widor’s Toccata for Organ, Goodall’s music for The Vicar of Dibley, a guest appearance by The Three Tenors, along with all your ‘Last Night’ favourites. Tickets: £10 per person to include post-concert drinks.
