A snapshot from last year’s festival: fun on the Green

The Wood Street Jazz Festival is back for its 12th year on Sunday July 19th.

The annual event is held in aid of Challengers, the Guildford charity dedicated to transforming the lives of disabled children, young people and their families through the power of play.

In partnership with Guildford Jazz, Challengers is inviting people to join in an afternoon of vibrant live music on Wood Street Village Green.

This family friendly event promises soul-stirring music in an uplifting community atmosphere.

This year’s line-up includes:

Liane Carroll Trio – led by the multi-award-winning vocalist Liane Carroll, joined by her husband Roger Carey on bass and Russell Field on drums.

James Davison & Callum Au Quintet – hard-swinging, soulful music inspired by the great 1960s quintets.

Somethin’ Else Big Band – bringing high-energy Latin rhythms, afro-jazzy beats and funk that will feel like a real party on the green.

Alice Milburn Quartet – showcasing fresh talent on the newcomers’ stage with original compositions from the Hampshire-based vocalist and composer.

While enjoying the afternoon of music, jazz lovers can either pre-order curry platters care of the Shahin Restaurant or grab traditional fish and chips on the day. A fully stocked bar, as well as tea, coffee and cake will also be available.

Gates open at 12.45pm, with performances running from 1.30pm to 6pm.

One hundred percent of ticket sales and all proceeds from the bar and refreshments stall go directly to Challengers.
