Guildford Lido is hosting a cold water swimming event on Saturday, February 22, for those brave enough to take a dip in the pool.
The special opening is aimed at those training for a triathlon, open water event or looking to take a dip in lower temperatures for health and fitness reasons.
The Olympic sized pool will be heated to 11°C, so all swimmers will be required to wear a wetsuit.
The lido is managed by Freedom leisure on behalf of Guildford Borough Council. Area manager Steve May said: “Take the plunge and welcome the benefits of cold water swimming into your life.
“Regular cold water swimmers swear by it and often claim it gives them an all-natural high. What’s more, swimming in cold water requires your body to work twice as hard to keep you warm meaning you burn more calories. So why not come along and give it a go and see what all the fuss is about.”
The lido will be open from 9am to 11am and the cost of a swim will be £5.90 per person.
The Friends of Guildford Lido group is delighted with the announcement of the winter swim, an event that it put on its wish list to Freedom Leisure.
It is also pleased that other items it asked for have also been acted upon – new slides, early morning swimming sessions and a new arrangement for catering
