Refurbishment works at Guildford Friary Bus Station continue today. They commenced on Tuesday, September 1, as part of the North Street regeneration scheme which is expected to be completed by late 2027.

Commercial Road which runs through the bus station is now closed to general traffic but buses, emergency services and construction vehicles will still have access. And there will be changes to where buses pick up passengers, so they are advised to check the position of bus stops before travelling.

Other changes are:

  • Seven existing bus stands on Commercial Road are being removed
  • Temporary bus stands are being provided nearby, with 2 on Onslow Street and 4 on North Street
  • Bus services will continue throughout the works
  • Pedestrian access to the bus station will remain open
  • Temporary bus stopping locations will be clearly signposted.

From October 26 a second phase of works will begin, bringing further changes to bus stand locations. Buses will enter the station through the new northern entrance from Woodbridge Road and part of North Street will close to traffic.

The bus drop-off lay-by outside The Friary will temporarily close and two new bus stands will be introduced on Commercial Road. The exact bus stand allocations for Phase 2 will be confirmed nearer the time.

From January 2027 further changes to the bus station layout are planned as the main refurbishment gets underway. The completed bus station is planned to include improved covered waiting areas, new seating, modern passenger information screens, clearer wayfinding and better accessibility.
