The Guildford Talking Newspaper, a registered charity, needs more help to deliver the news to those whose eyesight makes it difficult to read the printed word.
The Guildford version has been going since 1976. Every Monday subscribers are sent, free of charge on a USB stick, a recording of a selection of articles from local newspapers – The Guildford Dragon NEWS and the The Surrey Advertiser, who allow this free of charge.
Those using the service are each given a special player so that they can listen at their own pace, just as a fully-sighted person would read a newspaper.
The recording is done by a small team of four volunteers – a different team every week for six weeks. But they need additional reliable volunteers to undertake admin, reading, and recording activities, particularly over the holiday period.
Work needed:
Recording takes place every Monday evening at Surrey University from 5.30pm. Full training will be given.
Organiser Mike Field says: “Can you commit to helping us for just over two hours on a Monday evening, once every six weeks? If you are interested or would like to know more, please contact me at: mikefieldgtn@emfield.net I’ll be happy to arrange a visit for you to see how it all works.”

Also, do you know someone who is visually impaired and would like to subscribe – remember, it’s free of charge. If so, get them to contact Mike Field to help them do that, or of course you can do so on their behalf.
