A bus travels up Ash Church Road for the first time since the road closed in February

The roads near Ash Station that were closed for resurfacing work in February as part of the Chester Bridge project were reopened to traffic earlier today (Wednesday).

The major works in Ash Church Road and Foreman Road were carried out as part of Phase Five of the project.

Phase Five has not been without problems. Last week  it appeared the resurfacing had been completed but on Monday – following an inspection – further work was in progress and the surface was being relaid again.

There is now a half-way point for pedestrians near Ash Station

The contractors, VolkerFitzpatrick,  said they hoped the work would be completed by the Easter weekend, but a speedy repair job saw the reopening take place today.

Cllr Fiona White, chair of Ash Parish Council, was one person who was delighted with the reopening, telling the Guildford Dragon today:  “I am pleased to say that Ash Church Road/Foreman Road junction is now open. I drove through it earlier today. It will be a relief for the residents who live along the diversion routes and who have been very patient.”
