It was raining cats and dogs when the Guide Dogs Mid Surrey Branch held their Christmas carol service, but this didn’t pour a damper on the occasion.

St Peter’s Church in Old Woking was packed for the service – with the congregation including a number of Labradors.

One of the special  guests, the Mayor of Woking, Cllr Amanda Boote, said the Guide Dogs charity was close to her heart as her mother was registered blind.

While giving the address the vicar, the Rev’d Jonathan Thomas, described how he ran the London Marathon in aid of Guide Dogs.

The service was conducted by the curate, the Rev’d Lucy Bush. The Mayor did a reading, the singing was performed by the Show Choir and the St Peter’s handbell ringers played In The Bleak Midwinter and Infant Holy Infant Lowly.

The Woking Sea Rangers did a reading, a collection and served refreshments after the service.
