Guildford City (2) 3 Mile Oak (0) 0

By Barry Underwood

City reserved their best performance of the season so far for the day the largest crowd attended, boosted by families from the Boys & Girls section.

From the off, the hosts looked good. New signing at the back Mason Drew impressed amidst an already secure looking unit. The returning Keone Pillay and Harry Hennem dominated the middle of the pitch, and up-front Josh Williams and George Bamgboye were a constant menace.

Early on, Mason Drew headed a free kick over the bar and fed by Williams, George Bamgboye under hit a good chance that keeper Pat Sessions saved comfortably.

Mile Oak did respond from a set piece on 12 minutes when Harry Robins struck the crossbar from 25yards. But in truth that was largely as good as it got for the visitors in front of goal.

Guildford opened the scoring on 22 minutes. Andrew Hewitt’s high lob into the goalmouth was palmed out from under the crossbar by Sessions. A scramble ensued during which the ball hit the post before falling to George Bamgboye who shot into the corner. Minutes later Keone Pillay met a cross into the box with his head, but the effort went inches wide.

On the half hour Josh Williams found himself in front of goal with the ball at his feet, but taking unselfishness to another level, he tried to set up a colleague rather than try to score. Mile Oak did respond by heading a bouncing ball over the bar, and then seeing an overhead kick cleared off the line.

In the final moments of the first half City scored a deserved second, and what a goal it was!  Harry Hennem ran diagonally across the edge of the box, and with his route to goal blocked he unleashed an exquisite chip which slowly cleared defenders and goalkeeper alike and found the back of the net.

Guildford dominated the second period. Josh Williams was rampant on the left side of attack, and on 57 minutes his cross led to a Ronnie Lee shot that deflected just wide.

Minutes later Williams again crossed into the box. George Bamgboye couldn’t connect and Keone Pillay’s effort went just wide to his own dismay. Pat Sessions then smothered the ball at Bamgboye’s feet following a free kick.

On 72 minutes Mile Oak went down to 10 players following a poor foul on Rory Cornelius. Harry Hennem and Mile Oak’s Marley Ambler exchanged shots over the crossbar.

City’s third goal came on 81 minutes, and it was the sort of goal you score when all is going your way.  Brooklyn Hyseni’s cross into the box was cleared by the defence.  But the clearance cannoned off Oliver Kimble and ricocheted straight into the net!

The boys and Girls teams took to the pitch at half time and with their families boosted the attendance and adding to City’s support.
