Council and Guildford Society Join to Present 2021 Design Awards

The Guildford Society and the borough council have stopped organising alternate years of design awards and have now combined efforts to set up the 2021 awards.

These accolades encourage and reward excellence in design of built projects across the borough. Nominations are now being sought for the presentations late this year.

Schemes need to have been completed between June 2020 and June 2021, although some projects due for completion by June 2021 but delayed by the pandemic for a few weeks will be considered.

Categories

New commercial building;
New public building;
New-build – individual house;
New-build – multiple housing – smaller projects of up to 30 home;
New-build – multiple housing – larger projects of 30 homes and over;
Conservation project;
Regeneration project involving an extension to an existing building;
Public realm, including soft (landscape) and/or hard works; and
Public art.

The judges will be representatives from the Guildford Society, the borough council and others with relevant expertise, architectural, planning, artistic, or project commissioning.

The criteria for each category in this year’s competition will be published on Guildford Society and council websites.

If you wish to nominate a project large or small please make your submission by e-mail to chair@guildfordsociety.org.uk. Details should include:

Location including postcode;
Category of project from list above;
Brief description of the project, with key features of the design, maximum one A4 page;
Photographs of the completed project;
Name of client and consultants responsible for the design; and
Email address, phone number, etc for key contact.

Those nominating projects need to ensure property owners are happy for their scheme to be considered.

Submissions should be made no later than Friday, June 25, 2021.
