Dan James’ Photo Album: August 2013

Dan James is a photographer, graphic and web designer from Guildford. He takes stunning landscape and natural history photos and films. Here is a selection of photos for August.

RHS Garden at Wisley.

He says: “A recent trip to the lovely RHS Garden at Wisley in this wonderful weather was a delight! The images that came were also fabulous, the colours and variety in there are great – I would defiantly recommend a visit.

Sunset at St Martha’s Hill.

“St Martha’s Hill – One of my favorite places to shoot. It’s beautiful anytime of the day, this was one sunset during our recent heatwave.

“Another brilliant location is Leith Hill, not too far out of Guildford and well worth a visit. Again, another sunset shot with this sculpture in full view.

Wedding at Scrivfest as the sun goes down.

“This was a at a recent wedding I shot – Scrivfest! A festival themed wedding in the Surrey Hills with a fabulous sunset to end an awesome day, I had to share!

I recently dabbled a bit into filming, after a trip to Scotland without any proper equipment I came back with this.”

Dan camped out on Thursday night (August 1) at Newlands Corner with his camera focused on the night sky hoping to capture some images of the Delta Aquariids meteor shower. During the night (1am to 4am), he saw about 30 fleeting glimpses of meteors, and managed to photograph three of them.

Using a Canon 600 D camera, Dan took numerous photos. The picture here features a number of images laid on top of one another to create one overall image.

Dan has also recently set up a Facebook page called Beautiful Surrey Photography. Dan says: “It’s all about showcasing beautiful images taking by local photographers of all skill levels.It reached over 600 likes in two weeks which was fantastic.”
