In response to: Dragon Interview: Clive Aslet – Clandon Park International Design Competition Jury Member
Clive Aslet has got it wrong about the Earl wanting a quiet park. He doesn’t live there. The farm on the estate uses a different access road and is very little affected by visitors.
Everyone was appalled by the fire, but the design chosen for its so-called restoration is brutal and ugly. To make the house into an exhibition space may be a good idea, but why leave bare brick; why put in concrete staircases that will obscure the structure, not reveal it?
Why does Mr Aslet think that an exhibition space will attract local community visitors? Has he done a survey?
Will the exhibitions be about the house or some random contents? If it a museum, what relevance will there be to the local area?
Check back this evening to see our exclusive interview with the Earl of Onslow.
