Howard Smith, Mayor of Guildford

If you did not already know the Borough of Guildford has a new Mayor, Howard Smith, a Labour borough councillor who represents Westborough ward.

In an interview with Dragon editor Martin Giles, Cllr Smith explains how he is a true Guildfordian and how his ambition to become a rock star, developed while a pupil at George Abbot school, came to fruition as the drummer for The Vapors who had a hit single Turning Japanese in the 1980s.

He goes on to discuss his ambtions for his mayoral year and the challenges of his role chairing council meetings.
