Dragon Interview: The Influence of National Politics

Following up comments made by the GBC leader Joss Bigmore that he was seeing more criticism than usual of all politicians, some even suggesting they were all corrupt by taking bribes, Martin Giles tackles the subject with Cllr Bigmore and the Conservative councillor David Bilbe.

What do they think of the relationship between national and local politics, both downwards and upwards?

Are those who stand without any political party association disadvantaged?

And what can be done to improve trust in the political class?

    It has not helped with trust in local politics that members of the Tory leadership during GBC’s previous administration, accepted hospitality [declared on the council’s register of interests], from developers during the creation of the disastrous Local Plan.
