A driver was killed when his car hit a tree and caught fire in Elmbridge Road, Cranleigh, on Friday evening (October 10).

Surrey police are appealing for witnesses, saying they are particularly interested in receiving information about a red Ford that was in the area.

Officers were called to Elmbridge Road shortly after 9.30pm following reports of the single vehicle collision. The driver, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said his next of kin have been informed.

Elmbridge Road (B2130) was closed between Horsham Road (A281) and Hewitts Road for several hours while police carried out their enquiries, but later  reopened.

In an appeal for information, a police statement said: “We are particularly interested in the manner of driving of a red Ford C Max shortly prior to the collision.

“Were you in the area around Elmbridge Road between 9.25pm and 9.30pm last night? Do you have any CCTV, dashcam, or helmet cam footage that may have captured all or part of this incident?

“If you have any information that could assist our investigation, please get in touch quoting PR/45250123638.”
