A Guildford-based charity that operates a helpline and counselling service for people with drug and alcohol issues needs to raise more than £10,000 as its workload has increased during the pandemic.

Surrey Drug and Alcohol Care says that “Covid-19 has impacted many people’s lives, especially those who struggle with issues at the best of times but who are now finding it particularly difficult not to resort to substances during this crisis”.

It has launched an appeal to raise £10,645 to cover additional costs to help and support people living in Surrey.

Its helpline operates 24 hours a day, all year round, and its telephone counselling service is free for anyone who is concerned about the problems that drugs, alcohol or mental wellbeing cause.

Surrey Drug and Alcohol Care’s helpline number is 0808 802 5000.
