An Effingham man is to be the United Kingdom’s next ambassador to Kosovo.
Jonathan Hargreaves’ full title will be “His Britannic Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Kosovo” and he will be addressed as “His Excellency”. He will succeed Nicholas Abbott, who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Mr Hargreaves will take up his appointment in early 2024.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office made the announcement earlier this month.
Mr Hargreaves, who lives with his wife Kate and two children and has been an Effingham resident for seven years, said: “It is such an honour and privilege to be named as the UK’s next Ambassador to Kosovo.
“Since my first visit in 2002 the country has been transformed into a modern, multi-ethnic European state. I am proud of the UK’s role in being Kosovo’s friend and partner.
“I look forward to building on this partnership, working with women and men in all parts of Kosovan society, to keep building a prosperous, inclusive and stable country and strengthening ties with people and institutions in the UK.”
Following a career with the European Commission, United Nations and accountants KPMG, Jonathan spent 20 years in the Department for International Development (DFID), before moving to the Foreign Office in 2020.
