Guildford Cathedral has a full programme of events for the community this November – including the launch of two books by the late Bishop of Guildford, Andrew Watson.
The month begins with All Saints Eucharist on Sunday, November 1, and a Requiem Eucharist for All Souls on Monday, November 2, when loved ones who have died are remembered.
On Sunday, November 8, the County Service of Remembrance brings the community together to honour those who have fallen in conflict, followed by a reflective Requiem Eucharist that evening.
On Sunday, November 15, the Cathedral will welcome visitors for the launch of two books by the late Bishop of Guildford, Andrew Watson: The Way of the Desert, the Bible Reading Fellowship Lent book for 2027; and Maundy: Leadership and Identity in Life and Death.
Evensong at 6pm, with Lydia Padfield (née Watson), will be followed by the launch and refreshments. The occasion offers an opportunity to encounter Bishop Andrew’s writing and reflect on his legacy. Both books will be available from the Cathedral Shop.
Towards the end of the month, young people bring their own perspectives to the Cathedral through “Angels – God’s Messengers”, the annual Christmas art exhibition opening on Sunday, November 29. Artwork by pupils from nursery to sixth form explores angels in the Christmas story and in life today. Families and visitors are invited to see familiar themes through fresh eyes.
The same Sunday marks the beginning of Advent. The first candle is lit at the morning Choral Eucharist, and an evening Advent Carol Service brings music and readings together as the Cathedral prepares for Christmas.
Other events at the Cathedral include:
