Blustery winds caused a tree in the cricket ground to fall across Woodbridge Road early this morning, closing it in both directions for several hours.
All motor vehicles including buses where diverted onto other routes, mainly Stoke Road, while pedestrians were allowed to walk through the adjacent cricket ground or could choose to climb over the trunk.
The tree missed, only by inches, a car parked close by but no one is understood to have been injured. The remaining stump of the Lime tree shows sign of disease.
