A fatal road accident occurred on the A3 at Ripley this morning (June 26) and police officers are appealing for witnesses.

Only one vehicle is reported to have been involved. It is understood to have been in a collision on the northbound carriageway at the Burnt Common slip road just before 9am.

A white Ford Fiesta left the carriageway and ended up on its side.

Fire & Rescue and the air ambulance were called and were in attendance, in addition to the police.

The driver of the vehicle suffered serious injuries. It is understood that treatment at the scene was unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at the scene just before 10am.

The northbound carriageway of the A3 was closed for a short time and queues developed but at least two lanes have now been reopened.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Surrey Police Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting incident reference P13189336.
