Poets and writers from Guildford and beyond will take part in the Festive Writers’ Showcase, at Zero Carbon Guildford.
The free, spoken-word event on Saturday, December 7 will celebrate the wealth of creative writing talent in the area.
More than 20 poets and writers will perform their work aloud, with many offering the chance to buy copies of their books, signed and inscribed as Christmas gifts.
Organiser Sharron Green, who also runs the popular Poetry & Pizza evenings at Solar Sisters, says: ‘I enjoy gathering people together and wanted to support local writers – self-published or with small presses, and comedy writers too – to perform and sell their work.
Guests will be able to meet the writers and purchase their books, ask about their journeys to publication and find out about local opportunities to write and perform. I’m hoping it will be a friendly and inspiring event.’
Sharron and fellow poet Victoria D’Cruz, who runs the Guildford Writing Group, will host two hours of mostly poetry readings from 2pm. From 4pm, Guildford author and Dragon contributor Alice Fowler will present an hour of fiction, showcasing the work of five published authors from the area.
The event takes place from 2-5.30pm on ZERO’s third floor (with lift if needed), and visitors are welcome to grab something from the ground floor café on their way up. Stalls of books and information will be available, with space to meet and mingle, and regular breaks so people can come and go as they wish.
Organisers hope visitors will also learn more about ZERO’s work towards tackling the climate crisis and donate towards their costs.
