Fire At Railway Station: Trains Stopped For 90 Minutes

Guildford railway station closed today (Sunday, June 12) for 90 minutes after firefighters were called to a fire in a fridge in one of the office cabins. The station re-opened at about 6pm.

Twenty firefighters were called to a fire at Guildford railway station. The station was closed for 90 minutes while the incident was dealt with.

A platform on the east side of the station was still cordoned off at 6pm but a station staff member said services were now back to normal.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service received a call at around 3.50pm. A fire spokesperson at the scene said the fire crew had had to shut off the electric current to the third rail, stopping trains running.

There were 20 firefighters at the scene and an investigation is ongoing.

The spokesperson said the fire crew worked closely with Network Rail and British Transport Police to open the station as soon as possible to minimise disruption.

Guildford railway station was temporarily close on Sunday, while the fire was dealt with.
