A new series of monthly social walks designed for all levels of fitness and ability are starting in Guildford.

The first takes place in the Westborough ward on Monday, August 24, and will follow the fitness trail that runs between the houses there in its own green space.

Already confirmed as going on the walk will be David Rose, Guildford Dragon NEWS writer and co-ordinator of the Joining In! project, that supports community involvement in Park Barn, and the local Guildford Borough Council community warden Tracy James.

David said: “Come along on the walk that will use the route of a great fitness trail that has been in place for a couple of years now. The route has fitness equipment for those who want to use that, but it is also great for a stroll. There are also information panels along the way, that include local history details which I supplied. So, I will be pleased to chat to walkers about that too!”

The walks are being organised by Living Streets, a charity that was formed as long ago as 1929, and which helps to make local streets not just safe, but actually enjoyable to walk around.

The co-ordinator of the Guildford walks is Victoria Spashett, and she will be leading them.

She says: “It doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned hill walker or just want to take a break from your daily schedule. Come along with friends or on your own and meet new people.

“Please wear appropriate footwear as we will be walking on pavements and woodland paths. Also bring a bottle of water and maybe wear sunscreen.”

If you have any questions about this walk or what Living Streets will be doing in Park Barn and Westborough in the upcoming months contact Victoria Spashett on victoria.spashett@livingstreets.org.uk or call  07714 616600.
