Former Student Denies University of Surrey Crossbow Attack

A former University of Surrey student has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of a staff member with a crossbow.

Almunthir Daqamah, 21, is accused of trying to kill safety officer Robert Tytler at the Manor Park Student Village in Guildford in June.

Daqamah, who Surrey Police said was a Saudi national, appeared at Guildford Crown Court on Friday (August 28) via video link,. He is due to stand trial in January 2027.

Students previously said that they were left “very shaken” by the incident.

Tytler was previously described by university students as “very nice” and a “familiar face around campus”.
