February is the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) annual National Heart Month, in which it aims to make awareness of heart conditions and related health problems.
The Guildford and Godalming fundraising branch of the BHF is also gearing up for National Heart Month and has already been busy in 2020 with its fundraising.
The Thursday Club at St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Rydes Hill, Guildford, presented the local BHF fundraisers with a cheque for £75.
Stalwart fundraiser Shirley West said: “Mary Lawrence who runs the club with all her wonderful members are so loyal to the BHF.
“This is a great start for National Heart Month that begins on February 7.
On Saturday, February 8, the BHF fundraisers will be collecting at the Guildford Tesco store, Ashenden Road.
Diseases relating to the heart and circulation are often referred to as cardiovascular disease (CVD) or heart disease.
Examples include; angina, heart attack, heart failure, abnormal heart rhythms, coronary heart disease, atrial fibrillation and congenital heart disease.
According to the World Health Organisation, CVD the world’s number one killer. Data from the BHF show that 20 people in the UK die every day from CVD.
