GBC Park Workers Pitch In to Keep the Grass Growing

The GBC parks department is taking advantage of the lockdown to give the borough’s sporting pitches some extra tlc.

The photo above shows one parks worker watering a seeded goalmouth area of a football pitch in Shalford Park. The wear and tear on sports pitches has been much less with sporting activity on hold but the hiatus also gives the department a chance to bring the grassed pitches up to even higher standards.

Although reseeding of worn areas is done every year, the parks team do not normally get the chance to provide irrigation even in dry spells, and this limits germination of new grass.

Bowling greens and cricket pitches are also enjoying the extra attention and the grass can be left to grow a little longer than normal to increase its strength.
