George Abbot School in Burpham has received National Lottery funding of £8,885 to introduce outdoor table tennis.
The grant, awarded through Sport England, has funded tables, equipment and coaching, allowing students to play every day whether in break times or at a dedicated after-school club.
Assistant headteacher, Matt Goulborn said: “Our aim is engage as many students as possible in sport and the tables will be a great help.
“Table tennis is a sport that can be enjoyed by all and our plan is to encourage students who currently do not partake in extra-curricular activity at school through after-school and lunchtime clubs.’’
Head of PE, Catherine Graves, added: “The PE department’s aim is to promote and encourage a healthy active lifestyle and a lifelong love of physical activity for all our students.”
Students have taken up bats and balls within days of the tables arriving, taking advantage of the warm weather to enjoy ping pong in the playground and on the field.
