A fire on an area of open grassland in Shalford, near the closed-down Parrot pub, caused a road closure on Saturday (August 13).
There have been no reports of casualties and the fire service repeated appeals for everyone to exercise increased care during the current drought and hot weather.
Broadford Road was closed for several hours.
A spokesperson for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said; “We were called to a fire in the open at 16:47 on Broadford Road, Shalford.
“We had a total of four fire engines and a water carrier vehicle in attendance, including support from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
“Fires like these can be caused by the unsafe disposal of a cigarette. With vegetation still tinder dry, we would like to remind the public to please take their waste home with them and dispose of cigarettes safely, ensuring that they are fully extinguished.”
Below is a video clip taken on Monday, August 15, showing the aftermath of the fire…
